Finding the love of your life or simply meeting interesting people to date is easier said than done. Sure, we have endless options when it comes to finding people online, but often this isn’t enough. In our western go-go society, we want the solutions to our problems right now. We believe that time is money, so we want to speed up the dating process because we think that (statistically speaking) the more people we meet, the more likely we are to find “the one”.
This viewpoint is flawed for many reasons. Firstly, let’s take the quintessential example of fast-paced continuous interactions with other singles – This is better known as “speed dating”. You know the drill; you meet at a random bar, and sit at dimly tables where singles rotate like clockwork from one person to the next. The date lasts only 1 -4 minutes, and in that time you must answer a series of questions and offer your best first impression. This strategy is great because you meet a lot of singles in a very short period of time. But it’s also incredibly flawed because its runs on the premise that there is such a thing as “love at first sight” which we know to be superficial and pretentious. And let’s face it, the people who use speed dating as viable means of meeting people are placing all their faith in odds and not value.
If you really consider the worth of speed dating, then you have to consider how long it takes you to get there, get ready, have the interactions and go home. How many times have you gone only to find that you had no matches at all? Well, if you’re like most statistics then probably few to none.
Finding partners to share your life with or have some casual fun with is certainly a daunting task, and if you’ve exhausted all other means of dating, then we say online dating is really your best bet for meeting someone. All the deal-breakers and the common interests are already on the table within our dating profiles. We can see pictures; even interact with potential suitors prior to actually meeting them in the first place. You can do all of this from the comfort of your own home!
If you’re finding that online dating isn’t exactly working for you, then there are things you can do to spruce up your profile, or alter the way you approaching potential interests.
